Merry Christmas!!

For those of you who were dreaming of a White Christmas.........STOP IT!!! LOL. I love the snow at Christmas time (and that is the ONLY time I love it) but this is ridiculous! Nevertheless, we had a wonderful Christmas here at home.

Started last night - unfortunately the 3 oldest were at their dad's for Christmas Eve so it was just Ben, Emma and me. But we had a very nice night cozied up by the fire and watching movies. Emma decided to take a nap early on in the evening. Here's a few pics:

It was very sweet! Ben and I had a dinner of Shrimp Scampi and Crab Legs (Yummy! Our one splurge) Emma had mac-n-cheese LOL. One of her favorites! She got to open up one of her Christmas gifts - brand new Little Mermaid PJ's and a game - then she took a bath. and I have to say, she gave me one of the best Christmas presents ever - she let me wash her hair and didn't scream, cry or fuss at all! That is the first time EVER!!! Yay! Then we put her new PJ's on and played her new game, left milk and cookies out for Santa, read a couple Christmas books, and tucked her in for the night. Ben and I then did one of OUR holiday traditions - we watched "Holiday Inn". Love that movie! By the time it was over I was exhausted. Definitely time for bed.

Emma let us sleep in til almost 9:00! And then, when she woke up? All she cared about was getting dressed. She could have lounged around all day in her brand new Princess Ariel PJ's, but she wanted NONE of that. So, dressed is what she got. Then finally, she decided it was OK to open the present Santa had left her - a dancing June doll from The Little Einsteins. We had to wait to open the rest as the Alex, Jessica and Christian weren't home yet. Thankfully, the older kids Grandpa has a 4 wheel drive so they were able to make it home this morning (around 10:00).

After they got home, we opened all our presents and the kids were THRILLED that we got a Wii. Ben and I were pretty happy about it, too :-) We've spent the day playing games on the Wii and various other things. Alex got tons of painting and art supplies so he's been a busy little artist. Jessica got tons of Twilight stuff, which she loved, and Christian got a new MP3 player that plays videos as well. Ben has been playing with is RC Helicopter the kids got him. Emma's been trying to help (which translates into chasing the helicopter and trying to catch it LOL).

We made a very yummy ham and all the fixins for a late lunch and have been munching on lots of goodies throughout the day. I think I need a few pairs of elastic waisted pants after the last couple weeks LOL. New Years resolutions can't come soon enough!!

I'd say today was a perfect Christmas except that Sue was unable to join us because of the weather. Hopefully we'll be able to do our Christmas with her soon.

End of another Week!

It's the official end of another busy week. Ben should be home soon, the kiddos are in bed and I am ready to head there myself.

I had a Dr's appointment earlier this week. My labs looked good. My creatin levels (and everything else) seems stable so he said he didn't need to see me for another 3-4 months..... to just keep doing what I'm doing. That was really good news because the feeling I got from the visit before this one is that I would be on dialysis within 2-3 months. Looks like I was able to level things out so I should be OK for awhile. Hopefully someone is a match soon! Of course, I still have the weight to lose - which is SO much easier said than done. Not doing to good at it right now.

Alex turned 16 on Thursday and Emma turned 3 on Friday. We had a joint party for them with the Grandparents. It was nice - they got lots of goodies and everyone seemed to have a good time. By the end of the night (AFTER everyone had left, of course) Emma was running around the house singing "Happy Birthday to You" non-stop. It was really cute, but too bad nobody else was here to see it! And then, all day today, she kept coming up to me asking for a Present. LOL!
She was lucky - I had a pair of Princess Slippers that we meant to give to her yesterday and forgot - so she got another present! Hope she doesn't think she'll be getting one everday!

Christian had bowling this morning. It wasn't a great week for him. He bowled a 73, 72 and 69. He was pretty upset with himself, but he got over it quickly. I didn't think he did all that bad, but try telling him that!

Jessica had a jazz band performance this morning and then spent the majority of the day in her room. She was SUPPOSE to be cleaning it - but, upon checking at bedtime, I discovered she spent most of the time reading, sleeping or watching movies. Her room is still a complete and utter DISASTER!!! Tomorrow will be spent REALLY cleaning it or she will not be going to the dance on Friday!!

Alex had the Veteran's Day Parade this morning here in Bellevue. Then he went to the movies with his cousin, Jake, and is staying the night there so he can go to church in the morning. He'll be back sometime tomorrow. Emma spent a good portion of the day asking where he was - she missed him!

Well, I'm headed to bed. Ben should be home soon to get some rest and then start all over again tomorrow. Bless his heart for working his little tail off for us. He is a wonderful man and I am very lucky to have found him!

Tuesday! and Ben FINALLY has a day off, after working 17 straight days! No gym tonight either! We ran some errands this morning, had lunch and now are staying HOME! Well, except for picking kiddos up from school :-)

I had an appointment with my Nephologist this morning. Dr Birch thinks things are looking good and, pending lab results, doesn't think I will need to see him again for another 3-4 months! We'll know for sure after he gets all my blood-work in though. Hoping to see NO increases in my numbers! Except for maybe my hemoglobin.

I am down 2 lbs from my last visit with him. Not much, but it's a start. They say I need to lose 12 lbs before they will put me on the transplant list, and a total of 25 lbs before they will ever do the transplant. I'm all for losing weight, but it is SO hard. Especially when all the stuff I thought was good for me, isn't because it's too high in Potassium or Phosphates or sodium. Ugh. There are TONS of fruits and veggies out there that I CAN'T eat due to postassium. Makes it really hard to eat healthy and still eat things I like. No tomatoes, oranges, bananas, cantaloupe, peaches, lettuce (except for Iceberg), asparagus, artichokes, beans, potatoes, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, spinah......and the list goes on and on and on. Well, it's not that I can't have it at all, but I can't have very much of it.

Anyone have any great recipes that are low potassium/phosphates and are good for you??
Seems like all the stuff that is high in fat, etc, are the items that are low in potassium.

This stinks!

Happy Halloween!

Today was a long day! Started out with Jessica having a Show Choir retreat to learn choreography this morning. I volunteered to stay and help with costuming. I forgot how crazy a big group of middle school kids can be!! But it was fun listening to them sing. Can't wait until their first performance.

Christian had bowling this morning. He did a good job - not quite as good as last week, but still good. I think he bowled a 100, 98 and 70 this week. Last week was a 114, 91 and 122. He wasn't too thrilled with his last game this week, but he'll get over it!

Then those two and Alex went to their dad's for the weekend. Kind of a bummer not getting to spend Halloween with them. But I got Emma all dressed up in her costume (She was a Pirate Princess!) and we headed out to Walmart to get a few things then went to visit the grandparents. When we got home, she took a small nap, as did I.

When it came time for trick or treating, we walked outside and a big, red firetruck was coming down the street. They stopped in front of our house and came and gave Emma candy! She was freaking out - screaming and trying to hide behind me. I thought it was just because of the truck but she acted that way every time we tried to go up to a house - and these were houses of people we knew! Needless to say, we went to 5 houses and came home.

She is all hyped up on fruit snacks and Runts but I did manage to get her to eat a somewhat decent dinner. Bedtime should be fun........

Ahoy Mateys!

Had a fun morning! Emma had a play date with her friend Chloe (her mom, Meg, is my BF from HS). After that, it was off to gymnastics! Oh, how she loves gymnastics. Today was the big Halloween party after class - they got juice and lots of goodies! They also got to dress up in their costumes! Emma is a Pirate Princess. I will try to post pics later. She looked SO adorable! But it made for a difficult time climbing the cargo net! Next week, they will celebrate her Birthday at Gymnastics - how exciting!

Looking forward to a quiet evening. The older 3 kids are being picked up from school by their dad and spending the evening at his house and Ben is taking an extra training class at work all week so it's just the Emmster and I this evening. Think I might pop in a Harry Potter movie and just relax - after I get some work done, of course!

Update

It's been a LONG time since I've posted. Thought I would get everyone caught up on what's going on with use.

Ben is still at Paypal and might be getting moved up to a Senior Agent. He's also busy looking for a part-time job.

Alex just finished up Marching Band season. They did great, placing 1st at 3 of the competitions they went to, and 2nd at another. I think he's now going to audition for Jazz Band. He's anxiously awaiting his birthday (November 5th) and is begging for a car. Not gonna happen - at least, not from us. Just can't do it right now.

Jessica is busy with school, jazz band, show choir, gymnastics and dance. She just had her first Jazz-band concert last night - she did awesome! Had a solo and everything. The coolest part? She's the only seventh grader - the rest are in eighth grade!

Christian has been doing great in school. He just got named an "Individual with Integrity" and got an award and a bunch of stuff for it. They pick 5 students every month for this honor. He was really excited about it!

Emma broke her right arm about 2 weeks ago. This makes 2 broken bones for her in less than a year - both arms! Crazy! She has a splint on that is wrapped - they didn't think a full-arm cast was necessary this time. It hasn't slowed her down in the slightest.

I went through all my testing for my kidney transplant and everything is looking good. I do need to lose a little weight before they can put me on the transplant list, but it shouldn't take me too long. In the mean-time we are trying to find me a living donor who is a match. Both Sue and Ben have been tested so far, but both ended up not being enough of a match. There are 2 others that I know of that are planning on getting tested, so send some prayers our way that one of them is a match. If anyone else is willing to be a possible donor, let me know and I will get you the phone # of who you need to contact.

Just want to put a HUGE thank you out there for all of the support from all of our wonderful families and friends. There is NO way we could make it through all this without you!

June update

Well, it's been just about a month since I've done an update. You would think with school being out I would have alot of time on my hands, but it's just the opposite.

Jessica had her Show Choir camp concert this past Thursday. Her and her friend, Marisa, sang a duet - Far From the Home I Love from Fiddler on the Roof. They did such a nice job! The concert was about an hour and 15 minutes. There are TONS of talented kids at that school! Her band concert is this upcoming Wednesday. I'm anxious to hear them. Band is such a huge thing in this school district. I expect their Middle School bands to be as good as the HS bands in our old school district.

Christian has been enjoying playing with neighborhood friends and being lazy :-) One of our neighbors has his 2 kids here just for the summers. This is the first time our kids have met and they hit it off right away. Elizabeth just turned 11 and her and Jessica are attached at the hip. Jared is 12 and he and Christian have been hanging out quite a bit. I did hear through the grapevine that Jared is a bit smitten with Jessica. Jessica seems flattered but tries to avoid him LOL. Seems if you aren't Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner (both from Twilight) or one of the Jonas Bros, she won't give you a second glance!

Alex has 6 weeks at the beginning of summer where he stays w/ his dad, so I haven't seen much of him since school got out. He's here every Thursday and every other weekend. We've missed him, but at the same time, it's been nice not having fighting all the time between the kids. Weird how much the dynamic changes when just one kid is gone. It will be nice to have him back home though. He's at the movies right now, with his girlfriend, Sam (Samantha). She seems nice enough, but I'm not familiar w/ the family at all. Apparently, it is the daughter of someone Alex's step-mom works with or is friends with.

We're so excited - we leave for vacation in 9 days! I am SOOO looking forward to 5 days of just nothing. Well, nothing we don't want to do, anyhow. I'm sure we'll keep busy with Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave, Ellseworth Airforce Base, Storybook Island, Wal-drug and everything else there is to do. But i'm looking forward to being lazy around a campfire at nights. I researched temps in that area this time of year and it looks like it should be fairly nice - as long as it doesn't rain. The ALL TIME high for that area, ever, is only 92 degrees!

I'm a little concerned about Emma on the trip, though. I think she may have some seasonal allergies. Anytime she's outside for a long period of time, she ends up w/ a hacky cough and a major runny nose. Guess we'll see after we get back, huh?!

Well, I suppose I better go pick up Alex from his movie. I'll try to keep ya updated!

Schools Out for Summer!

Woo Hoo!! The kids last day was Wednesday. They are excited to be out. I am too. It will give more time to do things as a family. Today, we plan on going out to the Strategic Air and Space Museum. I think Ben is most excited about it!

I think I forgot to menion in my earlier post, but last Thursday, Ben, Jessica and I went to go see "Wicked". It was a-maze-ing!! and breathtaking, and anything else you can think of to describe something phenomonal! If you have a chance to go see it, I highly recommend doing so!

Our family vacation plans are coming along nicely. We're going to be gone June 29 - July 3rd. We made our reservations at the Horse Theif Campgrounds in SD. Looks like a nice place and the people are very nice - at least when I talked to them on the phone :-) We bought our tent and have started making a list of everything we need to take with us. I think Ben and I are more excited about going than the kids.

Next week should be a pretty tame week, but then all hell breaks loose! Starting June 1st, Jessica has Gymnastics on Monday's and Thursdays, Band Camp and Show Choir Camp Mon-Fri as well as summer school. Christian has Summer school Mon-fri and gymnastics on Mondays, Alex has band practice every Monday night not to mention the fact that he starts his 6 weeks at his dad's today. So I will only see him every other weekend and every Thursday thru Friday afternoon. Once June is over, our schedule will die down immensely.

Ben has picked up a little extra work doing some landscaping and such for the owners of Omega (the gym). Came at a good time, what with vacation and everything. We could definitely use the extra cash. We've had some unexpected expenses, not to mention the van needs some work before we can take our trip. Good timing, that's all I can say!

3 more days!

Well, 3 more days of school left!

Alex had his band concert Monday and it was awesome. I can't believe how good they are! They played through their marching band stuff for NEXT year at the end of the concert. Should be fun for him even if it means waking up at 5:30 in the morning!

Jessica had her Band Solo night and was awarded the Best Soloist of the Night award! Her judge was Alex's band director. Apparently he told her that she HAS to go to Bellevue East - he wants her in his program. Alex thought that was pretty cool. And despite what he says, I think he was very proud of her.

Tomorrow is Open House at the Gym. Emma hasn't been doing so well at gymnastics class lately so I'm not sure how it will go. Cross your fingers that she will actually go into the gym without screaming her head off this time!

Christian and Jessica tried out for the school Talent Show which will be this Monday. Christian did a magic act and Jessica played a saxaphone solo, sang a vocal solo and also did a vocal trio. Unfortunately, Christian's magic act didn't make it in. It made me so sad! But Jessica made it in with her vocal solo!! Should be a fun show to watch. There were approximately 27 acts that made it in out of a TON that auditioned.

Busy Busy Busy!

With the end of the school year comes lots and lots of activities!

Christian was on a bowling league this past year and has his end of the year banquet just recently. He and his teammate, Lenny, took 2nd place! This is amazing because they were in 6th place (last) for almost the entire season. The last 2 months they slowly starting climbing up in the ranks. Also, Christian took 2nd place for highest Handicap Series (3 game series w/ handicap included). Lenny took 1st. Christian had so much fun with bowling this year that he has already decided that he HAS to play again next year. So looks like he and Lenny will be partners again.

Jessica had her fall concert this past Thursday night. The band played first and I was very impressed! It's so hard to believe that for most of the kids, this is their first year playing! Bellevue schools don't start instruments until 6th grade. But since Jessica was in OPS district last year, she had already been playing for a year.

Today, Jessica had her 2nd gymanstics meet. It was the State Gymnastics meet in Fremont. There were 6 girls in her age category and level. I'm pretty sure it was the same 6 girls that were at the Omega Fun Fest where Jessica placed 2nd all-around, 1st in vault, 2nd on beam, 2nd on bars and 5th on floor (she fell).

Unfortunately, today wasn't a great day for Miss Jessica. She placed 6th overall and didn't place in the top 4 for any of the individuals. Oh well! She had a blast and that's what counts. And as they say, different day, different judge. She could have performed the same way for a different set of judges and scored higher. Oh well!

Tomorrow night she has her Solo and Ensemble night for band. She's playing a Sax Solo, Duet and she's also in a Wind Ensemble.

Next Monday, Alex has his Spring Concert for Band. Those are always good. They have an amazing band program at his school. He's excited about marching band for next year. Not sure how I feel about having to get up in time to get him to school by 7:00.....lol.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to attend Sara and John's wedding as that is the same day as Jessica's dance recital.

Now if we can just find time to schedule our family vacation!!

Cold and Dreary

Yuck! After a week full of gorgeous weather, it has been nothing but rainy and cold all weekend!! Of course, if you ask my kids, they will say it isn't cold. But I'm cold almost all the time so.... It was a great day for curling up on the couch with a good book. And that is exactly what I did!

The kids received the movie "Bolt" for Easter from Howard and Valerie and it has become Emma's new favorite movie. I swear that child would watch it all day long if we let her. She knows how to work the DVD player so she just restarts the movie when it's over. I think it played 4 or 5 times today!! Of course, normally she doesn't just sit and watch the whole thing - she's all over the place. But today, I think she sat through 75% of the movie every time it was on. She's even started saying some of the lines before or with the characters! It's kind of cute!

I did have to venture out into the thunderstorm today to take Jessica to her Dance Pictures. She had to be there for over 3 hours so I just dropped her off. She was really tired today because we had her Birthday party yesterday and afterwards she had 2 friends stay the night. I was woken up at 4:00 this morning by thunder and heard them still awake!!

Her party was fun! We did a Mall Scavenger hunt at Oak View. It was pretty easy and cheap. The only problem was that we didn't realize that most stores don't allow pictures to be taken in the stores. So, alot of what we had planned for the scavenger hunt they couldn't do. But we improvised and everyone seemed to have a good time with it. After the hunt, we went to the food court and had brownies and soda, sang Happy Birthday and she opened her presents. Then, instead of goodie bags for the guests, we gave each girl $10 and they went shopping for an hour. She invited 5 friends so it wasn't too expensive. Cheaper than having a party at Skate City or someplace like that. The nice part was my mom and I just hung out in the food court while the girls shopped. That was relaxing - well, as relaxed as you can get in a food court of screaming kids and noisy shoppers!!

The boys and Emma stayed home with Grandpa Chris. They went for a walk in the rain and watch "Twilight". They seemed to have a good time. I know Christian did. He LOVES the movie Twilight! He is almost as obsessed with it as Jessica is. Personally, I'm not a fan of the movie. But I did really enjoy the books.

Alex is excited. He has a job for the summer. He has been hired by our next door neighbor to mow their lawn 2 times a week. And they have a BIG yard! But they have a riding mower that he is allowed to use. Sounds like they are going to be paying him pretty good for it too!! They are so nice to him. They always invite him over to play Guitar Hero and such. Of course, he's always helping them carry in groceries and take out trash and anything else. He's so helpful. He also helps to entertain their 2 kids. Chris is Christian's age and Cara is 3 1/2 I think.

Anyhow, Ben should be home soon. I know he's probably happy he only has 1 more day of work left for the week. I miss him when he's gone 3 days in a row, 14 hours a day, but I LOVE the fact that he's here at home the other 4 days of the week ALL day. But he might be up for a schedule change - a Monday thru Friday schedule. That's going to be weird to adjust to if he gets it! But I know he'd really like it. No more missing the kid's school stuff (things always seems to happen on Mondays!) and weekend things, too.

Well, I think I'm going to head to bed. I haven't been sleeping all that great recently. And the Dr. said the whole Kidney thing is going to make me tired as well. So, basically, if I don't get a nap during the day, I'm toast by 8:00 at night. Too bad that most days, it doesn't work out that I can take one. Well.....I probably could but I choose not too. I feel like I waste away 1/2 of my day if I take a nap. But I think I'm going to have to break down and start taking one. This feeling of exhaustion all the time is....welll....exhausting!

Too many Dr's!

I'm sure most of you don't know this, but I have been having numerous doctor visits lately. It started with a cold. I went to see if I had an ear/sinus infection and my blood pressure was really high. This has been a running thing lately. For the past 6 months or so, my blood pressure has been consitently high at the dr's office. So, they put me on blood pressure medication. After 3 weeks, I went back so they could recheck and also decided to just run the normal bloodwork since it had been awhile since they had done that. I told them about my family history of kidney disease to make sure they tested for that as well.

Well, 2 days later I get a call from the Dr's office telling me my Creatine level was at 2.4. It's suppose to be between 1.0 and 1.4. Crap. So, they sent me to a nephrologist (kidney doctor).

We met with Dr. Birch and discussed the family history (My g-ma, her sister, my dad, his sister and my brother have all had kidney disease). They were telling my dad that it wasn't genetic when they discovered his. Then, when my brother had it, they decided that it had to be (duh! ya think?) But they have never been able to get a name for it or explain exactly why it is happening. So they suggested I have a kidney biopsy done.

Let me tell you, it's not something I'd like to go through all the time, but it wasn't as awful as I thought it would be. They numbed my back and then stuck a huge needle inside, made me take a deep breath and then jammed it in further to get a sample then janked the needle out. Yeah....painful. What's worse? They had to do it 8 or 9 times! Later, my Dr. told me that was the most difficult biopsy he's ever done. Usually they get what they need after 2 or 3.

I just had my follow up appointment with Dr. Birch yesterday. My kidney function is at 27% and about 75% of them have scar tissue from trying to heal itself. Needless to say, I am on the road to a kidney transplant. I have to call the transplant office to make an appointment. There's no saying how soon I am going to need one (could be 6 months, could be 5 or 6 years!) but they just want to get the ball rolling and everything taken care of now just in case. By the way? They still don't have a name or cause for it. They are forwarding my information to an institute that is doing a genetic kidney disease study. Hopefully they will be able to figure something out.

They also gave me all the pamphlets and information on dialysis. They are hoping that we can get a transplant done before I ever need to do dialysis though. So am I.

So there it is. It's alot to deal with, but I'm trying to look at the bright side of things - at least it's not terminal cancer or something that they can't fix. Right?

I will be sure to keep everyone updated as I find out things. Right now, we could just use your prayers and positive thoughts to help us deal with this. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have Ben, that's for sure. He's been amazing.

Our first Blog!

Just thought we'd start a blog to help keep everybody updated on what is going on around our house. It's something I've wanted to start for awhile, but just haven't had the time. Not that I have the time now, but I figure, if I don't do it now, I never will!

School is coming to an end soon - less than a month left! Which means lots of end of school-year activities! Jessica has a concert coming up at the end of April where she has a vocal solo. She also has the State Gymnastics Meet the first weekend in April. She did her first meet here at Omega and took 2nd place over-all! She also placed 1st in vault. Then in June is her Dance Recital. Throw in her birthday, birthday party, dance pictures and such and she is a busy girl!

Alex has his spring instrumental concert in May. Other than that, he's been busy learning how to drive. Hard to believe he's on the roads already! Scary! He registered for next years classes and opted to stay in band (Yay!). He originally wasn't going to take band because he didn't want to be at school at 7:00 in the morning for Marching Band practice. Glad he changed his mind though!

Christian was chosen to participate in the HAL program at his school - High Ability Learners. It is for 4th-6th graders. However, he has already started some of the lessons. He seems to really enjoy it. His speech is coming along good as well. He almost has is "R's" correct all the time. Sometimes he has to stop to think about it but it is a HUGE improvement over the beginning of the year.

Emma just won't stop growing and talking! She is taking gymnastics classes and loving it. Her open house is coming up soon so we'll see how she handles it this year. Last year she just stood in the middle of the gym and blew kisses at everyone - such a ham! I wonder where she gets it from. Hee hee!!

Ben is still working at Paypal and putting in applications for just about any job they have open so he can get a better schedule. So far, no bites. Hopefully soon though. He is looking at going back to school to get his degree. Paypal pays a substantial amount for doing so. Should help with the promotions!

My eBay business is still going. I wish I could say going Strong, but unfortunately with the economy the way it is, my sales are suffering. They are enough to help pay the bills that are necessary but not much else. I'm hoping sales pick up soon. Garage Sale season is upon us and I need $$ to go shopping!!

Well, there's a rough rundown as to what's going on here. I will try to update on a weekly, if not daily, basis. I'll also add some pictures when I get the chance.
